Learning to bake delicious bread is a rewarding skill that you can nurture on a regular basis and share with the ones you love. If the passion takes you, you can make baking part of your everyday life. Breadmaking classes make a great present for a loved one, a family or team, or even a treat for yourself. I am passionate about good bread and the whole process of baking – the feel of the dough, the amazing aromas that waft around the house on a bake day, the satisfaction of seeing a loaf rise and then change colour in the oven, and of course, the taste of the end product. I welcome the opportunity to share my love of bread with you in a baking class.
I offer informal hands on classes in beginner’s breadmaking and baking for individuals and small groups throughout the year. Scheduled dates for these are detailed below. I can also arrange a bespoke class at a date and time that suits your needs – and I can travel to you. Drop me a line to discuss.
Basic Bread Making Course
This is a half day hands on course where students will learn the practicalities and principles of how to bake different kinds of basic bread. We will discuss the key ingredients to make good bread then mix, knead and shape various doughs. During the course of the session we will make a plain white or wholemeal loaf, a seeded dough, a soda bread, a fougasse and a sweet bun. We will explore different rising agents, the best baking conditions and the equipment needed. There will be plenty of time for questions. Please note this class focusses on gluten based breads only.
- Class sizes are small, no more than 4 to ensure you will gain individual attention and have time to ask questions
- No previous experience in bread or baking is expected.
- All students are actively encouraged to roll their sleeves up and get sticky and floury.
- Tie your hair back, wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring an apron.
- A light lunch/ supper will be served during the course. And tea, coffee, soft drinks will be readily available
- At the end of the course you will be presented with a bag of goodies created by your own fair hands with recipes, guidance, recommended bread books & web sites to follow and some other treats.

Take your baking repertoire to a new level, impress your friends and your tastebuds. Learn to make enriched doughs choosing from a range of different ingredients (fruit, nuts, chocolate, seeds, herbs, cheese and spices). You will be guided step by step through the process of making different flavoured breads and will leave with a bag of baked goodies.

Scones and Jam Workshop
Is your idea of food heaven a warm scone oozing with cream and freshly made jam? Would you like to impress loved ones by creating a cream tea with your own fair hands? Sign up to the Scones and Jam workshop to learn to make light scones and delicious home-made strawberry jam. In this hands on morning class we will cover the dos and don’ts of basic successful jam making, create a couple of jars of strawberry jam from scratch and make a dozen or so scones. Whilst your jam is cooling we will mix together all the ingredients for a sweet scone and shape these ready for baking. Once your scone creations are baked we will have a grand finale – tasting some of your goodies with Cornish cream and a cup of tea.

Fresh, home made biscuits are a delightful treat to enjoy for yourself, and can make a wonderful thoughtful present. In this hands on workshop we will work together to create four different types of sweet biscuits based on your personal taste. We will look at the science of what makes a good biscuit and consider interesting ways to flavour, decorate and present your creations. There will be a fun taste off at the end of the session. Participants will get to bring the remaining creations home.

Learn to whip up a healthy vegetable soup using seasonal, locally sourced vegetables and two types of flavoursome bread rolls.

Cancellations or changes made within two full weeks prior to your class start date are non-refundable. I will endeavour to offer an alternative course date however this will incur an additional administrative charge of £10. If we cancel the course for any reason a full refund will be made.
